My Journey to Earth

Prof. Soubhi Nayal

On a chilly cloudy day, I woke up to see all my brothers and sisters are awake and dressed in white to go on a pleasant journey from the clouds high above to any surface on the ground . So, in a matter of seconds, I was fully dressed in white, combed my hair and ready to go down side by side with my relatives . I looked up and bid the atmosphere around me a warm farewell , then I plunged amongst the flurries and the snow falling heavily downwards.

I was so happy for a sort while, but then a wind chill blew and drifted me miles and miles away from all my relatives and kins . I looked around me and found alien masses of snow falling so quickly . "What's up? Why are you in such a rush?  There's no need to go down so hastily. Enjoy your trip down to mother Earth, " I said that to all the snow flakes around me as they were traveling down silently but happily. No one seemed to be interested in my suggestion and snow kept on moving quickly downwards.

The wind chill blew stronger and stronger , but I did not lose heart. I kept moving so steadily and eloquently. When the windchill's speed slowed down a bit, I had the opportunity to look around and tried to see were I have reached . The snow was so heavy falling around me, on top on me, under me and all over me . Despite the rush of the falling down snow, I kept my beautiful body in full shape. Then, I told myself that I must have a nice and easy touch down, so that I attract the attention of all . I hate to see myself badly treated or stepped on .

Suddenly, a gust blew from nowhere. I was thrown away in suc an awkward manner. " Calm down you gusty lousy wind !" I yelled trying to pull myself together . " Why everybody is so silent today?" " Odd, isn't it?"

I looked down . " Oh ! What a beautiful scene !"  The view from above is so fascinating and wonderful . I started thinking were to land exactly. " Shall I land on top of a house, on top of a church, on top of a tower, or on the surface of the land. Land ? What kind of land ? Farmland , wonderland, or a street. No..no.. not a street , where cars are supposed to move. They will trod on me and I will die on the spot. I will land....let me think.....I will land on a windowsill of a handsome gentleman who will appreciate my beauty and good looking features and take good care of me . No, no,no....I have changed my mind . I will land on a school . Yes, a schcool, where I can see those little kids around and play with them. They will make a snowman out of me . I may be part of his head or even his belly. "

I carried on my long journey downwards. Then , suddenly, I started hearing voices and those voices became louder and louder. It seems that I am about to reach Earth. " I must get ready. Ready , for what ? Ready to be trodden, or to melt ? I was really enjoying narrating those few words of mine, but everything seems to have an end, and my end is so close, very close and touch down .

" What a journey !!!"  I have reach at last. Reached where ? Where am I ?"  Hello there !"  " Anybody here?!!!"  Complete silence ! " What's the matter with everybody today ? "  " Where's everybody?"

The whole area was covered with snow. White coloured the whole surrounding around me. I couldn't know were I have landed. I kept looking right and left . I heard a dog baring . I looked behind me. I saw a dog running in front of an old man . " Oh! That's must be Sam and his dog Max . What a coincidence !"
